The Night Sky That Made Our KPIs Feel Smaller
In a professional life, spreadsheets take a major role in defining the thought process; in a professional life, dashboards define what are the measures for success; in a professional life, KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) will manage how we measure our success and move forward. To achieve a target we have set, we obsess about the target metrics and try to optimize them; therefore, every decision we make will be analyzed and evaluated based on how it would be perceived in our quarterly results. These moments can be undone in a short time. The moment I experienced was not on a boardroom table, nor was it on a strategy workshop at a luxury resort; it was a moment when I found myself looking up at the vast sky and realizing how small all of my KPIs are.
