JULY in Kerala -How about a bit of fun when tourism is not in operation! Absolutely!

Whenever a majority of travelers imagines Kerala, the golden glow of its sunset in Decembers or February sun-spangled backwaters come to their mind. And then what about July? Having washed away monsoon clouds and tourist crowds away July is poorly represented as a month to visit Kerala.

But this off-season has its own beauty it is enigmatic, voluptuous and immensely refreshing.

Why July Is Kerala Hidden Bug

In July, Kerala has another robe. Yes, the rains are frequent but the rains bring with it life to everything- the paddy fields of Kuttanad, the slopes of the hills of Wayanad.

The wet soil aroma after recent rainfall, the cadence of raindrops on palms, and the refreshing wind wash over the Arabian Sea can be called a sensual getaway.

July is heaven to anyone who likes slow travel. Less tourists translate to lower prices on hotels, lesser traffic in houseboats, and some intimate time with nature. Vagamon, Thekkady, Ponmudi are such places that appear more magical when it is raining.

The legendary backwaters of Alleppey attain mystic appeal as well with the water being engulfed in mist and with greenery crammed on the sides.

Monsoon Ayurveda Cultural Detours

The month of July is also the ideal month to get the authentic Ayurvedic treatments.

As mentioned in the classic literature, the monsoon period is the most receptive time period of the body against detoxification and rejuvenation treatments, according to the stream of tradition.

This is the best time to rejuvenate and reestablish oneself as there are many resorts and wellness centres in Kerala which provide special monsoon Ayurveda packages.

July is not disappointment either in terms of culture. The greatest festivals are later in the year, but there are still rituals to visit at the local temples as well as folk dances and entertainments taking place especially in the villages.

You could come upon a Theyyam or a sopping wet Kathakali performance which seem more personal than that in peak time.

Even the food follows the season, as I found out that hot kanji (rice porridge), curried dishes that are full of piquant spices, and dishes of steaming tapioca helped keep me warm inside and out.

July marks the time when Kerala does not mess around with the comfort food.

Therefore, the question of whether you should travel to Kerala during July or not.

When you go with either a lil rain and a lot of magic sounds good, yeah. July in Kerala is not a touristy checklist state.

It is about taking things easy, hitching a ride in the rain (both literally and metaphorically speaking) and exploring the meditative, more verdant side of the so-called Gods Own Country.
